Eduction Review Office Findings
For the purposes of review, ERO gathered information from
the manager and coordinators and from documentation at the service's
office and in the homes of caregiver/educators.
Review officers observed children in the homes of a selection of
caregiver/educators, attended playgroup and surveyed the parents
of children in the homes visited.
The charter-holder/manager and two coordinators are qualified, experienced,
registered early childhood teachers, and they work together closely
as a team to build the capacity of the service.
They recruit caregiver/educators through a robust appointment process,
regularly monitor health and safety in homes and, where possible,
offer families choices in the selection of a caregiver and home
environment for their children.
The coordinators work with caregiver/educators, offering advice
and support and observing children in their activities. They also
coordinate a playgroup three times a week. They run regular workshops
for caregiver/educators and parents and, with the assistance of
office staff, maintain administrative records.
Children benefit from the variety of experiences provided and establish
close relationships with their caregiver/educators. They enjoy a
range of activities and play equipment in homes as well as opportunities
for frequent excursions into local communities.

Children are cared for with up to three other children
and have very good opportunities to develop social skills in their
interactions with a wider group of children and adults at playgroups
and other group outings. Children settle quickly into new care arrangements
and appear very confident and secure in their environments.
As a result of coordinators' support and encouragement, most caregiver/educators
are enthusiastic about professional development opportunities to
strengthen their understanding of early childhood educational theory
and practices.
This ERO report evaluates the quality of education provided
for children and quality of support that the service provides for
caregivers. It also considers the service's progress in establishing
effective self-review systems.
ERO finds that generally the service provides very well for the
needs of children and families and actively supports and encourages
caregiver/educators in their professional development and in their
day-to-day work. The manager and coordinators are reflective practitioners
and have established a number of useful self-review systems.
ERO is confident that the service is being managed in the interest
of the children…
