Frequently Asked Questions
Feel free to call us or e-mail
us should you require further information or clarification on
any of the following FAQ's.
I am a single mum on a benefit. Will my earnings
as a caregiver/educator affect the amount I receive?
Practically all of your earnings as a career are tax free. You only
have to declare a percentage of them to WINZ. There fore your benefit
is likely to remain unchanged.
Only my back yard is fenced is this okay?
This is okay, as long as the fenced area is large enough for children
to run and play.
Who supplies the nappies and food each day
for the children?
The parents.
Who supplies the cot, highchair and so on
for the children?
We can supply you with all this equipment. The parent should supply
you with a car seat.
How do I get paid?
We collect the money on your behalf from the parents. We pay you
weekly regardless of whether the parents are up to date with their
fees or not.
How much tax do I have to pay?
Because you are working as a contractor under the Homebased Care
Order 1992 and amendments you pay very little tax. We help you to
calculate if you need to pay any at all!
Who supplies toys and educational equipment?
We would expect that you would have your own collection of toys
and equipment, however, to help you along we have our own "toy and
equipment library" from which you can borrow all types of educational
equipment. We also supply you with a starter Art Pack, and have
available stock from which you can top this up.

in Whangarei, which is free to our Caregivers and the children attending
the service.
What about training?
We will expect you to enroll you in an Open Polytechnic of NZ correspondence
course in basic homebased skills. We will pay for half of the enrolment
cost and you pay the other. However, when you finish the course
we will refund the other half directly to you. We also have regular
workshops on a variety of Topics to give you ideas about play activities,
child development and even on how to fill out our forms.
Do I have to do my training before I start
as a caregiver?
No, but we do have an introductory evening to get you started. That's
when you will be asked to fill out the enrolment form for your course.
What happens if I have any concerns about
the children in my care and do not know how to approach the subject
tactfully with the Parent's?
One of our Coordinators will support you and would only be too happy
to help you with all aspects of your caring.
