Caregivers/Educators Information

Are you interested in Caring for and Educating Children?
We are seeking Caregivers/Educators who would like to work from home Caring for Children from birth to school age. To apply online click here.

Who are the Caregivers?
Our Caregivers range from trained Early Childhood Teachers to people willing to have on the job training while working toward their NZ Certificate in Family Day Care. This training is by correspondence courses through The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand plus they all have a current First Aid Certificate. Training is paid for by Homebased Childcare Services N.Z. Ltd according to each Caregivers Contract. All Caregivers have warm caring personalities, experience with children and an awareness of their needs.

All homes must be fenced and comply with the Ministry of Education Homebased Care Codes of Practice, which means that their home must also be smoke free, safe, secure and provide a stimulating environment.

All adults living in the home have to undergo a Police Check to ensure they are suitable to be Caregivers. Caregivers must be aged 20 years or over.

How many Children can I care for?
You are able to have up to four children under the age of six in your home at any one time, this includes your own children. You are limited to having two children under the age of two.

What Equipment will I need?

We have an extensive range of Equipment available for you to borrow when you first start Caring for Children but we do prefer if you have some suitable toys and equipment. All homes must have a First Aid Kit.

Can a friend and I care for children together?

It is not possible for two caregivers to work from one home, although parents can choose to take their child to two caregivers at different homes.

What happens if I am sick?
If you are sick we usually find alternative care for the children you would normally have in care. You are not expected to work if you are sick.

Payment
Caregivers receive a reimbursement of expenses for wear and tear on their home, equipment/playthings, heating and items required by the Ministry of Education’s Homebased Care Order. This reimbursement is collected by Homebased Childcare Services N.Z. Ltd from fees charged for care, but paid weekly to Caregivers. The payment is based on how many children you have in care at any one time and could be up to $20.00 per hour.

Training
As mentioned previously, we offer training through The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand as well as First Aid Courses. Also, we have informal training sessions such as Workshops on ideas for using in your home, Child Development and of course our Rules. The Co-ordinators are also able to offer you on the job ideas when they visit your home.
